Project 404
Project 404 is a collective project of a group of artists and Alchemy Group (creators of the augmented reality application Alchemy AR).
Contemporary artists placed their paintings in augmented reality on top of Impressionist paintings in Room 404 of the Main Staff of the State Hermitage Museum.
"We strive to make art more accessible to the viewer. To do this, we directly engage with the urban environment,
placing art objects in augmented reality spaces. For example, during the 'Night of Museums,' we placed objects
on road signs and metro maps in St. Petersburg.
Error 404 means that the requested resource may be available in the future, but it does not guarantee the original
content will still be there. Now, we can replace any original museum collections with artworks by contemporary
digital artists in the augmented reality space — remotely, instantly, and at any time.
We named this project '404' after one of the halls in the Main Headquarters
of the State Hermitage Museum, where it all started."
