Kindergarten with learning walls

The project was realized in 2013 in a kindergarten in St. Petersburg.

The idea of the project is to make the environment educational. Children see a shape, hear a word, put one with the other and get images. These images largely determine their consciousness and memory. Learning walls in kindergartens and schools are a way of memorizing through unobtrusive repetition, as if children were looking at an encyclopedia every day.

130 square meters of kindergarten walls became flora, underwater world and space.
The rooms where children pass every day, but are not permanently located - the music hall, two staircases from the first to the third floor, a corridor twenty meters long and an elevator for lifting food to the kitchen - were allocated for artistic painting.

Along one staircase the Tuscan landscape and the trees most commonly found in the local climate are painted, along the second staircase are vineyards and an orchard. The trees were complemented by baskets with moulages of the fruits depicted.

Twenty meters of corridor on one side became an underwater world. Here live squid, hammerhead shark, jellyfish, a whale with a small world on its back, colorful fish, coral, and the island lighthouse shines.

But the real magic for the kids was the cosmos. The solar system has a second layer. It is painted with UV colors and is visible only under ultraviolet light. In normal light children see the sun, planets, a scattering of stars with the names of constellations and an astronaut in a spaceship. Under the light of ultraviolet lamps, connections are revealed, and then the stars turn into zodiacal constellations, the Milky Way glows, and the planets come to life as if illuminated by the sun.
